Proven Experience
Founded in 1986 by George Dean Johnson, Jr. and Foster Chapman, Johnson Development Associates, Inc. (JDA) has a proven track record for delivering projects of a large magnitude, while still offering tenants the familiarity, accountability and responsiveness of a local partner. Founded as a developer of industrial and commercial property, JDA has evolved into an Industrial Division and a Multi-Family Division with a rapidly expanding footprint.
By the early 1990s, JDA had coordinated the construction and permanent financing for 50 Blockbuster Video stores, stretching from Louisiana to Virginia. In 1992, JDA assembled 1,200 acres for Governor Carroll Campbell, providing the site for BMW North America’s manufacturing plant. Later, JDA would play a major role in helping Spartanburg land the corporate headquarters of NYSE companies Advance America and Extended Stay America. By 2009, JDA had constructed and managed nearly 13 million square feet of improvements and partnered with over 120 clients in the process.
Well-capitalized and privately held, JDA owns a streamlined and disciplined approach to selecting sites and managing the development of its apartment communities and large scale build-to-suit industrial projects. JDA has solely developed eleven separate industrial parks, eleven apartment complexes, nineteen shopping centers and numerous free standing retail and office facilities across the southeast to date.
Even as JDA expands well beyond its traditional markets, the company continues to adhere to the same principles of quality and integrity that have defined its first 25 years of success.
