Office Properties
- Developed the first LEED certified office building in Spartanburg, SC, at the Gold level
- Reduced energy usage at our home office by 14% over the past year by encouraging employees to turn off lights and computers and disconnect chargers when not in use
- Recycling program implemented and containers provided at home office for paper, aluminum and plastic
- Discontinued use of Styrofoam cups at home office; purchased reusable coffee mugs and cups for all employees
- Installed Trane Tracer Summit systems in two recently constructed office buildings, which allows a building’s climate, lighting, and energy consumption to be programmed and managed
Apartment Communities
- Replaced approximately 1,000 standard light bulbs at our apartment communities with CFL bulbs; energy usage is expected to be reduced by 40%
- Construction started July 2010 on first NAHB Green Certified apartment community in the state of Virginia
Industrial Properties
- Solar panels installed on roof of Liberty Hardware facility in Winston Salem, NC, a 526,320 SF building
- Day lighting provided by clerestory windows and skylights at our Wal-Mart Return Center in Spartanburg, SC and our Georgia-Pacific Distribution Center in Jacksonville, FL.
- Heat reflective white thermoplastic polyolefin roofing installed on every industrial building we have developed since 2000
- Motion sensors installed on T5 lights in industrial buildings
- Collection of rainwater for landscape irrigation
